2021.09.26 14:40 VeryLazyLewis Magnet Fishing at New Islington Locks. Rubbish left behind, Bonfire left behind, metal scraps everywhere.

Last night I walked past the New Islington locks and there was, and still is, a convention of magnet fishers. At least 50 of them.
They camped up right next a residential building (about 40ft away) had a bonfire and was just super noisy. I just walked past again and they're packing up to leave. They're leaving behind their metal bonfire and, worst of all, they're leaving behind dozens of metal scraps littered all across the canal path.
I challenged one of them and they just shrugged their shoulders. I called 101 and the guy was nice, but simply said they don't have any capacity to send an officer, and that some crimes are taking days to get to right now, and I have to phone the council for clean up. It's so sad that our services are stretched so far that the police are unable to send a single copper to intervene before they leave.

2021.09.26 14:40 Electronauta New Lotro Players: what are Lotro Points and how to farm them in-game.

Because the influx of new players (that is much welcome), and the confusing about the terminology and gameplay and the lotro store, I think is nessesary to post this here with links to relevant content to give a better understanding:
Lotro Points (LP) is the main source with what buy things in-game, aside from real money, of course. In many cases, you will have to collect/buy LP in order to adquire perks, like premium wallet, remove gold cap, and more.
So, if your goal/reality is that you can't spend real money, you can always farm LP.
Here is how:
- What is lotro points: https://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/LOTRO_Point
- Now, completing deeds in-game is the main source of LP, each zone of the map, have a specific amount of deeds available, here a list of them, with the total amount of LP you get completing each and all the deeds for said zone:
https://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Acquiring_LOTRO_Points_from_Deeds
- Basically, the strategy is to create a char, do some deeds following a guide, delete the char and create a new char, repeat the drill, and so on, until you have collected trhe amount of LP you set up as a goal. Is important to note that you don't need to do all deeds in each starter zone, that is why si way better to follow a guide to maximize time:
This guide is for 95 LP in 40/50 minutes (the first try will take you longer, of course because the learning curve): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaKoloEu2Tc
This another guide is for 235 LP in 2,5 hours: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGoIZW4Uq7E
Although it can be grindy, honestly, playing each day with a new char that will be deleted to farm 95 LP, will mean you need to do this cycle 9 times to be able to buy the 8 Expansions Quests available right now for 99 LP.

Kudos.

2021.09.26 14:40 codecrunchie Find-a-friend with only 28 questions! A clever algorithm that covers age, gender, common interests (probably the best feature), continent πŸ—ΊοΈ , willingness to share pictures πŸ“· or voice calls πŸ“ž, studying/working status and more πŸš€!

Yo internet travelers of 2021! As we all know, 2020 was an intense and lonely year for many of us, which led finder_of_the_humans/ to spend a whole fucking year on a friend finding project that uses 28 questions to find you compatible people to talk to. It's the coolest project I've come across in a while in the way it works (hence my posts) .
TLDR:

---
So how does it work?
Step 1. Find compatible matches
Basically it matches people up based on answers to 28 simple questions. For each question, you choose your answer and also answers from people you would want to talk to. This is your compatible matches list.
Step 2. Friend requests
Once you have the list, you can then send out friend requests to these users, (or receive requests from them), and once either of you have accepted a request, you get connected with that person, you form a friendship. You eventually meet up, get married, 3 years later you get divorced and fight over the who gets the coffee table with 5 lawyers involved.
Why this is awesome:
What are the questions:
Sounds sketchy, or you have concerns?
A few people have concerns about the above. So I can highlight a few things.
Okay woohoo lets do this!
The link is: https://findafriend.club/howitworks
If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them! (I'm based in Europe, so might be sleeping in US time).
Final tips:
I'd encourage you not be shy to send requests to people (that is the point!) - quite a few people sign up and don't send out any requests. People do have the option to hide their profile if they get too many people talking to them, so it's safe to assume that if you see their profile - they're probably still looking for a friend.

2021.09.26 14:40 RexorInvicta [Letter] About the Jim Jefferies Interview

So whilst I was browsing YouTube, I came across an interview that I had not seen before. This (in my opinion) highly edited and framed interview was edited in such a way as to portray Dr. Peterson as most of the "left/liberal" MSM usually does. Portraying him as a right-wing masochist by taking small sections of lectures and taking them out of context, plus also adding the Pepe flag (lol).
Framing aside, at around the 4:00 minute mark, Jim Jefferies poses an interesting question:
--
Jefferies: "What about making people bake a cake for a gay wedding"?
Dr. Peterson: "I don't think that's a very good idea."
Jefferies: "So should they be able to deny baking a cake for a black couple if they don't like black people?"
Dr. Peterson: "Allowed to? Probably. That doesn't mean it's right"
Jefferies: "Ok, so then we've had the civil rights movement where they said that you had to serve black people in your restaurants and stuff, and it did work, and it did make our society better, but would you argue that still wasn't right?"
Dr. Peterson: "No, that was right."
Jefferies: "And why is that different from now, if you wouldn't want to make a cake for black people"
Dr. Peterson: "Maybe it's not. Maybe it's not different. Maybe I was wrong about that"
--
I was thinking about this and discussing it with a couple of family members because I didn't think that comparing the civil rights movement and modern day emancipation of homosexuals was entirely justified.
Some context: Black people (and other minorities) in America weren't legally equal under the law till at least the voting rights act of 1965. Homosexual couples have had the right to marry since 2015 and thus have been equal under the law marriage wise since then (Obergefell v. Hodges).
Now these cases seem comparable, and they are up to a certain extent. However, black people were denied service due to obviously racism, and them not having the same rights as white Americans before 1965. Homosexuals post 2015 posses equal rights, but can in practice be denied service due to religious concerns (or homophobia).
You see, homosexuals are allowed to get married before the state. In that sense, they have the same rights as other Americans. Trying to get married before the church or a religious community that believes that marriage before god is between a man and a woman is a different story. It would be comparable to state that a black couple was trying to get married before god in a religious community that believes that marriage should only be between white people. In practice, they should probably find a community or baker whose views align with their own.
Mandating people to treat others equally in matters regarding the state, seems to me to be a good idea. That's what I think Jefferies was referring to with the civil rights movement. But mandating people to behave a certain way even though there are religious differences seems absurd. There is no reason one person's religious beliefs should supersede the others.
In theory, then, the baker should be able to deny the couple if they wanted to be married before god, but should be expected/mandated to accommodate them if they get married before the state. In the same way black people should be able to be denied if they wanted to be married before the "anti black people" church but should be accommodated when marrying before the state.
In practice however, just look for someone that can happily bake a great cake for your wedding because it would be difficult to force bakers to make you a great cake. (does anger taste better than love?)
Anyway thanks for reading my incoherent ramble, let me know what you think.
